Measure And Cutting

Scandinavian style Christmas tree measuring wood

  • Make up one's mind how alpine you desire your Scandinavian style Christmas tree to be. Nosotros wanted to make a real presence with this one and information technology measures over vi′ on the stand up. To get a perfect triangle, start by measuring the width at the lesser for the base. We measured out 40″ and and then measured upwards 5′ from the lesser in the middle. And then we divided forty″ in half to become 20″ on each side and traced down to the base along the outside. Once traced in pencil nosotros went over it with a marking then that we could easily see where to cut.

  • We planned on adding 3 floating shelves out of the two 10 iv forest and marked for placement where nosotros felt they would expect best. The shelves were going to be screwed on from the back through the wood, so we marked information technology on the behind. When you measure for shelves it'south important to brand sure that your lines are straight and level!

  • The forest panel was placed on to the ii x 4's to raise information technology upwards, making it easier to cut with the circular saw.

  • Next we measured and cut the woods with a chop saw to build the base and the legs to adhere to the stand. All the time we were building this we were dodging intermittent rain showers. Typical Miami atmospheric condition!

  •  We congenital the box a little more than one-half the width of the tree at 24″ and 12″ deep. This would give it a prissy stable base that wouldn't tip over.

  • Laying out the base of operations earlier screwing it all together.

Associates

  • Building the stand that would concord the tree and checking the angle of the holders to make certain that they are direct.

  • Prior to assembly I spray painted the 2 x 4'south with white primer/semi-gloss paint. Then we used two 1/two″ screws to adhere the tree legs to the base.

  • The National Hardware Wide Corner Braces are decorative and enhance the look of the base of operations! Afterwards I spray painted them white to blend into the Scandinavian style Christmas tree.

Decorate!

  • The next step was to add the marble look contact newspaper to the tree shape. Nosotros applied it on the horizontal aligning the pattern and smoothed it out as nosotros went along. Subsequently smoothing by paw it's a good idea to apply something like a soft piece of plastic to go out any air bubbles. * Make sure that yous use something like this tool, otherwise you might scratch or tear the paper!

  • Then nosotros fastened the floating shelves by screwing a ane″ drywall screw through the back of the plywood into each shelf. Next we screwed the tree onto the legs with 2″ drywall screws. Nosotros screwed straight into the floating shelves were nosotros could. At the top there was no shelf and then we glued with adhesive caulking and clamped until dry.

Final Steps!

  • Finally nosotros were almost finished, merely since this was going to be a Scandinavian style Christmas tree I needed a place to hang things! We used 12 of the 3/4″ National Hardware Loving cup Hooks In White

  • We predrilled holes for the cup holders and that made it easier to screw them in.

  • Because I'thou a fan of asymmetry we added the hooks at varying heights.

Time To Embellish!

The finished tree looks pretty bare but I had a vision of what it would look similar! At this time I went angling through the bins for just the right things.

  • The 3/4″ National Hardware Cup Hooks In White were perfect for wrapping the wire of these fairy lights around! That was the first matter that I did in decorating this pretty tree!

  • In addition to the fairy lights I wove some faux cedar garland loosely around the perimeter of the tree. That gave the tree some structure and a frame, if you will. With a hook at the peak I was able to add together a star topper make out of glittered paper-thin.

  • Last simply not least, I added bottle brush trees, some faux fur on the shelves, vintage ornaments tied on with antique French ribbon and faux candles. These concluding touches make a project similar this ane all worthwhile and I love the look!

I hope that y'all enjoyed this project and let me know…what is your favorite office?
